My first experience as a foreign teacher was with Oxford as Academy. It was one of the most fantastic teaching experience in wonderful Turkey. Two weeks of fun with motivated children of Tavsanli. With my fellow teacher from Britain I had lots of fun and we worked well together to plan fun, educational lessons plans and activities. I think one of the most important aspects of working with Armagan and the Oxford AS Academy is the level of support you receive. It is so important to feel you are supported when working as a foreigner in a foreign country. The rules and regulations are often different to those we may understand or expect in the UK. Armagan and Oxford AS Academy are there to offer guidance and support which is informed, practical, immediate and ongoing.
At first I was not sure why it was necessary to have an intermediary when working in Turkey. What I can say about this company is that they adhere to the contract as far as payment, housing, lessons and everything stated. They are also quite understanding when it comes to financial aid. The salary is acceptable and you won’t go hungry or fall short of basic needs and will enjoy a comfortable social life while in Turkey. Oxford has also helped me in certain personal situations and they are quite understanding when it comes down to it. Armagan is very communicative throughout the term, and is very quick to help resolve any issues that may arise. As I’d read, and heard ALOT of horror stories whilst looking for a teaching contract, the main concern I had was payment – I needn’t have worried though, as I was always paid on time, and sometimes earlier when holidays were coming up. After one year of working for Oxford as Academy, I consider it a well organized agency. From the very beginning, the agency was quite clear about their working terms and conditions, and yet if I ever needed help with understanding or ensuring about any of the conditions, the responsible agent never hesitated to help. In terms of transportation and issues with curriculum or students, I had to contact my school as per to the contract. However when it came to any financial issues, I would contact the agency and they would do their best to resolve the problem. I was always given the salary on time.
